River Don (Kilnhusrt to Mexborough) Sunday 15th March 2026

Sunday 15th March 2026, The club met at Pastures Hotel in Mexborough for a short trip on the River Don.

Paddlers included, Phil & , Ben Both paddling solo Open Canadians with Paul, Ash, Charlie, Brian and Frankie in Kayaks. Eva was to join us with her Paddleboard on the canal for the final mile or so.

Having quickly changed we headed up to Kilnhusrt where we made our way onto the water. Already on the water and playing in the waves (river level was around 1M on the Kilnhurst Gauge) we found David Holdway and a couple of other paddlers.

Phil, Brian and Frankie made their way to the top of the broken weir for a run down with the rest of the group getting on the water below the weir.

After a few minutes playing on the waves the group (now including David) had a gentle paddle down to the old Mexborough Ferryboat Crossing where we moved onto the canal at Mexborough Top Lock. Introducing Paul Evans to seal launching from the canal bank. David and Frankie also joined the fun with Frankie’s playboat doing what playboats do in these situations. Two great rolls from Frankie.

When we got to Pastures it was Mothers Day and the pub was slightly full so we collected the cars from Kilnhurst and had a pint in the George and Dragon on Church Street.
