White Water Weekend: Ultimate Rafting & Kayaking on the Mighty Upper Tryweryn
19 September 2026
After the brilliant success of our Tees Barrage weekend late last year, we're heading west for the next one. This time we're taking on the Upper Tryweryn, one of the best and most reliable stretches of white water in the UK. Thanks to dam releases controlled by Natural Resources Wales, the river runs with proper, continuous rapids whatever the weather, so we're guaranteed a full-on day on the water.
This is a joint event with something for everyone. If you paddle, bring your kayak and tackle the classic upper section rapids yourself. If you fancy the raft, we're booking onto the centre's Ultimate Rafting session, a full-on, immersive run down the upper river in a guided boat with the rest of the crew. Either way it's a cracking weekend of white water, good company, and the usual WYCC mix of adrenaline and tea afterwards.
Thinking of joining the raft? There are a few eligibility requirements (swimming ability, fitness, minimum age and a couple of size limits). Please check the centre's rafting FAQs before registering: https://www.nationalwhitewatercentre.co.uk/whitewater-rafting-faqs
What's provided: Wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets and all safety gear. Bring your own swimwear, a towel, and warm dry clothes for afterwards. There's a riverside café on site (Manon's) doing hot food, drinks and wood-fired pizza on busy weekends.
Kayakers: Bring your own kit. The river runs 9am to 4pm on release days. We'll confirm grades and meeting arrangements closer to the date.

We're gauging numbers first before we confirm and book. If you'd like to come along, whether rafting or paddling, please register your interest below. This isn't a booking yet, just a way for us to see how many are keen. Once we've confirmed numbers and the session details, we'll reopen the event for you to book your seat in the raft.
