Dan Jackson was a much-loved young member of West Yorkshire Canoe Club. Tragically, Dan passed away at a young age, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Dan loved paddlesport of all types. Whether it was canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, or just messing about in the sea with friends, Dan embraced every opportunity to be on the water. His enthusiasm and spirit embodied everything the club stands for.

In Dan’s memory, West Yorkshire Canoe Club established the Dan Jackson Award. This award recognises members who share Dan’s infectious enthusiasm for all types of paddlesport, who actively support fellow club members, and who embody the joy and spirit Dan brought to everything he did on the water.

Each year, the recipient’s name is added to the Dan Jackson Award plaque, creating a lasting record of those who have exemplified the values Dan held dear.

Previous Winners

2023 Andrew Currell in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the club over the previous year. Andrew dedicated considerable time and effort to organising and leading white water trips, sharing his passion for paddlesport with fellow members and creating opportunities for others to develop their skills and enjoy time on the water together.”
2024 David Wolfenden – nominated in recognition of his dedication to the club over the last year, David has been instrumental in securing the pool sessions and is working behind the scenes along with Yorkshire Sport to hopefully find the club a permanent and secure home for the future.
